Marcel Tournier (1879 - 1951) composed some of the most beautiful music ever written for the harp. But many of his compositions are problematic because they are not notated the way they are actually played. There are often double flats and double sharps that have to be played enharmonically. The notation does not indicate which hand is playing what. Measures written, for example, in four sharps, in fact, have to be played in five flats! For these reasons, much of his output is not as frequently played as it should be.

Composer Felix Godefroid (1818-1897) was a Belgian harpist who was also a prolific composer. He studied the single-action pedal harp in Paris with François Joseph Naderman and then the recently developed double-action pedal harp with Elias Parish Alvars.

This well-known work by composer Bernard Andres is suitable for beginner-intermediate lever or pedal harp. A lovely little work, it includes several percussive modern harp techniques such as playing close to the soundboard, xylophone sounds and playing with the nails.

An original solo for flute and intermediate level pedal harp by Julietta Anne Rabens. This work allows intermediate level duos to work on a contemporary work composed by a gifted harpist and composer. This means that the harp part is more than playable - it is comfortably and idiomatically written for the harp. The harps role vis a vis the flute is primarily accompanimental in the work but there is a lot of room for both instrumentalists to explore musical affect and have fun.
