Godefroid, Jules-Joseph, Bolero Brillant
Jules-Joseph Godefroid (1811-1840) was a harpist and composer (brother of the more famous Felix Godefroid) who studied at the Paris Conservatory under the tutelage of François Joseph Naderman. Boléro Brillant is a highly virtuosic piece that combines the romantic sense of heroism and grandeur with the bravura of the Spanish dance. Technically, this composition emerges as distinct from the compositional ideas of Godefroid's teacher Naderman's and also differs markedly from the style of Parish Alvars. A treasurable historic document by a forgotten pioneer, who died too young to fulfill his promise.
