A scholarly edition of transcriptions of Scarlatti sonatas for intermediate or intermediate-advanced pedal harpists. There is a wonderfully informative afterward in this book containing notes on the composer, the works themselves and Baroque performance practice for harpists.
Scarlatti (1685-1757) is often considered a Baroque composer although his works are credited with having been part of the foundation of early Classical style. He is most famous for his 555 keyboard sonatas which contain elements of Spanish guitar style and harmony due to his long sojourn in Spain where he was music master to the Spanish Princess Maria Barbara who later became Queen of Spain.
This collection includes 17 of these wonderful works. Most of Scarlatti's keyboard sonatas were intended for harpsichord and the plucked strings of the harp provide a tone and resonance to these sonatas that cannot be matched on a modern piano. A truly priceless collection!
