Blue Danube Waltz for 4 Harps
An arrangement for four harps by Kajetan Attl of Johann Strauss' famous "Blue Danube Waltz" edited and revised by Paul Hurst. This collection is suitable for intermediate-advanced pedal harpists.

The sweeping Viennese elegance of Strauss' waltzes are perfectly suited for the elegant sound and style of the pedal harp. However, one of the primary obstacles in performing Strauss' works on harps is their harmonic complexity. Arranging this work for four pedal harps solves this difficulty because the chromaticism can be divided between the multiple harps. Each harpist also gets to have a fabulous time alternating intricate patterns of chords and arpeggios within the 3/4 waltz rhythm to building the flowing melodic line that is the "Waltz of the Blue Danube."
Includes score and part for Harp I, Harp II, Harp III, and Harp IV. Score is 18 pages

Jules-Joseph Godefroid (1811-1840) was a harpist and composer (brother of the more famous Felix Godefroid) who studied at the Paris Conservatory under the tutelage of François Joseph Naderman.

Boléro Brillant is a highly virtuosic piece that combines the romantic sense of heroism and grandeur with the bravura of the Spanish dance. Technically, this composition emerges as distinct from the compositional ideas of Godefroid's teacher Naderman's and also differs markedly from the style of Parish Alvars. A treasurable historic document by a forgotten pioneer, who died too young to fulfill his promise.

A transcription by Carlos Salzedo for intermediate-advanced pedal harp of J.S. Bach's "Bourree" from Violin Partita I. This transcription preserves much of the Baroque affect inherent in the original work - it includes block chords where melodic emphasis is needed but consists primarily of a melody line harmonized in octaves and fifths. The work does get progressively more chromatic but it's stark beauty contrasts well with the more lush Romantic style of later harp music.
On a recital program, this work would provide elegant contrast to a later Classical or Romantic work, It would also be a great piece for pedal harp students to work on as a technical study - and then end up with better technique and a polished harp solo!
