Adagietto from Symphony No. 5
An edition for harp and organ of the famous "Adagietto" from Gustav Mahler's Symphony No. 5. This edition is in the original key (F major) and the flowing harp part consists of arpeggios and octaves. The arrangement is suitable for the intermediate-advanced pedal harpist and the organ part provides the texture of the orchestral accompaniment. This arrangement is by Joachim Dorfmuller.

Mahler's heart-rending "Adagietto" is the most performed movement of his 5th Symphony. It has appeared in the film Death in Venice and Leonard Bernstein conducted a 1968 performance in St. Patrick's Cathedral, NY at the funeral of Robert Kennedy. The harp part floats over the sehr langsam line of the string accompaniment which is beautifully recreated in this edition by the organ.

Tchaikovsky, Peter Ilyich, Adagio for Harp and String Quartet
thumb
Item Price: $22.00  Shipping:  Prorated  Gift Wrap Options
Adagio for Harp and String Quartet
This "Adagio" for harp and string quartet was composed by Pytor Tchaikovsky (1840-1893) during his days as a student at the conservatory in St. Petersburg. The work is fairly short, but despite being one of his early works it already reveals Tchaikovsky's distinctive musical style. The harp part consists of full chords accenting downward moving arpeggios that become increasingly chromatic. This work is suitable for the intermediate-advanced or advanced pedal harpist. It would be an excellent less well-known Romantic work to program as part of a chamber music recital.
Includes score for harpist and separate parts for Violin I, Violin II, Viola and Cello. Score is 6 pages.

Item Price: $18.00  Shipping:  Prorated  Gift Wrap Options
Album of Harp Music Arrangements (An)
This album of A. Francis Pinto's arrangements has been computer-engraved and reissued to enable harpists to enjoy playing and performing them again. They were originally published between 1917- 27. Included is a companion CD performed by Gail R. Lyons of Syracuse, NY.
The arrangements reflect the way music of the time was performed - embellished, flowery, and very very harpistic. The recording is quite realistic, and you might even think it is Pinto himself playing. Many chromatics and pedal changes, scales, arpeggios, glissandos, rolled chords. Full and beautiful arrangements reflecting the harmonic structure popular at the time. Suitable for intermediate-advanced or advanced pedal harpists.

Clair de Noel (Clair de Lune; Still, Still, Still; Silent Night)
A Christmas fantasy on the themes of "Clair de Lune," "Still, Still, Still," and "Silent Night" arranged for intermediate pedal harpists by David Ice. This beautiful arrangement includes a series of flowing arpeggios beneath each of these well-known melodies. "Clair de Lune" opens the work with a simple series of dyads and eighth-note melodic figures (the arpeggios don't come in until the Christmas carols). The fantasy then flows into "Still, Still, Still" and "Clair de Lune" returns as a segue into "Silent Night." In the last two pages of this work "Silent Night" and "Clair de Lune" continue to alternate until the piece comes to a delicate conclusion.

Classics and More
This collection of arrangements (and an original composition or two!) by Darlene Walton is written for everything from a 26 string lap harp to a full size pedal harp. The pieces range from easy to intermediate level and none of the pieces contain any sharps or flats. In fact, all of the pieces in this collection are in the key of C major or A minor so they can be played on a harp without levers or pedals. The chords are printed above the staff in these books to allow for further improvisation if you choose. A really fun, valuable collection!

Scarlatti, Domenico; arr. Susann McDonald and Linda Wood Rollo, A Collection of 17 Sonatas by Domenico Scarlatti

Item Price: $32.50  Shipping:  Prorated  Gift Wrap Options
Collection of 17 Sonatas by Domenico Scarlatti (A)
A scholarly edition of transcriptions of Scarlatti sonatas for intermediate or intermediate-advanced pedal harpists. There is a wonderfully informative afterward in this book containing notes on the composer, the works themselves and Baroque performance practice for harpists.
Scarlatti (1685-1757) is often considered a Baroque composer although his works are credited with having been part of the foundation of early Classical style. He is most famous for his 555 keyboard sonatas which contain elements of Spanish guitar style and harmony due to his long sojourn in Spain where he was music master to the Spanish Princess Maria Barbara who later became Queen of Spain.
This collection includes 17 of these wonderful works. Most of Scarlatti's keyboard sonatas were intended for harpsichord and the plucked strings of the harp provide a tone and resonance to these sonatas that cannot be matched on a modern piano. A truly priceless collection!
